The Inevitable Result of the Evolutionary Progression

We can see the necessity of darkness, inconscience, suffering and struggle once we accept the idea that the Overmind can create a world where each possibility is allowed to work itself out as if it is separate from everything else. The world of ultimate fragmentation of consciousness eventually leads to a world of inconscient matter, self-absorbed and ignorant of its roots in Sat-Chit-Ananda. As the possibilities evolve from this starting point, the lack of awareness, the separation lead inevitably to error, conflict, struggle and mistaken direction. The separated entities that arise and each try to carry out their own possibilities inevitably come into opposition to one another and struggle to survive, to grow, to succeed and to enjoy. And with this struggle come all the dualities, life and death, growth and decay, success and failure, enjoyment and suffering.

What must be recognized however is that eventually, as the powers of consciousness evolve from this starting point, they must begin to manifest the actual powers of the Overmind and Supermind, and the ultimate reality of Sat-Chit-Ananda because, regardless of what the short-term reality or appearance of reality is, these are the ultimate cause and essence of the universal Being and existence; they are involved deeply inside this inconscient seed and as the forces progress, they approach ever more closely to the higher grades and powers of consciousness.

Sri Aurobindo points out the inevitability of this progression: “As Life and Mind have been released in Matter, so too must in their time these greater powers of the concealed Godhead emerge from the involution and their supremen Light descend into us from above.”

“A divine Life in the manifestation is then not only possible as the high result and ransom of our present life in the Ignorance but, if these things are as we have seen them, it is the inevitable outcome and consummation of Nature’s evolutionary endeavor.”
